Key Responsibilities

As a Miner General, you will lead and manage your crew to achieve production targets while maintaining the highest safety standards. Your main duties will include:

Safety, Health, Environment, Risk & Quality (SHERQ)

  • Ensure team members adhere to PPE requirements and safety standards at all times.
  • Participate in required SHERQ meetings, interventions, and campaigns.
  • Conduct accident and incident investigations and implement corrective measures.
  • Ensure full compliance with mine standards, procedures, and legal requirements.
  • Report all incidents, near-misses, and hazards promptly.
  • Liaise with safety representatives and team members on safety matters.
  • Conduct Safe Behavioural Observations (SBOs) and Planned Task Observations (PTOs).
  • Participate in risk assessments and take appropriate action on identified risks.
  • Promote a culture of zero harm and continuous safety improvement.

Production Management

  • Lead the crew to consistently meet or exceed production targets.
  • Plan, coordinate, and control day-to-day mining activities.
  • Conduct daily re-entry examinations and mark-off support.
  • Identify reef bands and mark the face according to geological reports.
  • Oversee charging-up of the face and safe blasting operations.
  • Manage more complex mining activities and pillar extraction where applicable.
  • Ensure effective utilisation of materials, machinery, and people.
  • Achieve production efficiencies and minimise wastage.

People Management & Development

  • Provide coaching and on-the-job training to crew members.
  • Manage performance and development of reporting staff.
  • Ensure fair work allocation and inspire the team towards high performance.
  • Identify training needs and address them in consultation with stakeholders.
  • Conduct performance meetings and provide constructive feedback.
  • Manage attendance and address non-conformance.
  • Support organisational change initiatives within the team.

Administration & Reporting

  • Accurately complete all required documentation and administration.
  • Conduct planning for leave cycles and resource allocation.
  • Submit accurate and timely section reports.
  • Maintain operator records (e.g., valid licensing).
  • Request necessary mining materials and ensure adequate stock levels.
  • Perform SAP inputs (time and attendance, orders, etc.) when required.
  • Represent the Shift Boss in Operational Excellence meetings and transfer knowledge to the team.
  • Act as Relieving Shift Boss when required.

You will be expected to work shifts underground and maintain the highest standards of professionalism and accountability.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Blasting Certificate (Fiery Mines).
  • Grade 10 or equivalent qualification.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2–3 years relevant underground mining experience.

Other Requirements:

  • Valid First Aid Certificate.
  • Medically fit for underground mining work.
  • Clear security screening record.
  • Valid driver’s licence (advantageous).
