Job Purpose

The Workshop Foreman is responsible for coordinating, planning, and delivering daily team tasks in the repairs, servicing, and technical support functions. You will ensure that all work is executed according to agreed OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) standard operating procedures, while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, productivity, and customer satisfaction.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you will supervise technical staff, manage workshop resources, and act as the technical bridge between customers, service advisors, and technicians.

Key Responsibilities

As Workshop Foreman, your core duties will include:

• Team Leadership and Productivity: Ensure an optimal, productive, and efficient workshop team by planning and allocating daily tasks according to available hours and workload.
• Quality Workmanship: Guarantee that all repairs and servicing meet Kia’s high-quality standards and customer expectations. Conduct quality checks and provide technical guidance to technicians.
• Customer Communication: Communicate technical information, challenges, and decisions clearly and professionally to customers and service advisors.
• Employee Development: Develop and mentor workshop staff, ensure all technicians are properly certified for specific tasks, and manage apprentices effectively.
• Health and Safety: Take full responsibility for health and safety compliance in the workshop, including risk assessments, PPE usage, and adherence to all safety protocols.
• Administration and Reporting: Oversee job cards, clocking of hours, work-in-progress management, and accurate record-keeping. Check and approve job cards before invoicing.
• Workshop Asset Management: Manage workshop tools, equipment, and assets to ensure they are properly maintained and utilised.
• Technical Support: Assist technicians with complex diagnostic problems and perform test drives when required.
• Team Coordination: Oversee effective teamwork between Service Advisors, Booking Clerks, and Technicians to ensure smooth workshop flow.
• Maintenance of Tools: Ensure all hand tools and equipment are properly maintained and accounted for.
• Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve workshop efficiency, reduce downtime, and enhance service quality.

You will report directly to the Service Manager and play a key role in achieving workshop performance targets, customer satisfaction scores, and profitability goals.

Minimum Requirements and Qualifications

To be considered for this important leadership role, you must meet the following criteria:

Qualifications:

• Grade 12 / Matric – essential.
• Qualified Technician (Trade Test Certificate) – essential.
• Computer literacy (MS Office and dealer management systems) – essential.
• Supervisory or Management courses will be highly advantageous.
• Kia-specific product and technical training will be an added advantage.

Experience:

• Proven relevant work experience as a qualified technician in a franchised dealership environment.
• Previous supervisory or leadership experience in a workshop setting is strongly preferred.
• Sound knowledge of Kia vehicles, dealership policies, procedures, and service core processes.
