Detailed Duties and Responsibilities

As a UI Claims Officer, you will perform the following key functions:

  • Register all employers and verify employee declarations according to relevant prescripts and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Process Unemployment Insurance claims accurately and within set time frames.
  • Execute payment of approved claims efficiently.
  • Attend to client enquiries relating to processed claims or any other UIF-related matters.
  • Perform general administrative duties in the UIF section.
  • Capture and update information on relevant departmental systems.
  • Ensure compliance with the Unemployment Insurance Act and Unemployment Insurance Contributions Act.
  • Maintain high standards of customer care and Batho Pele principles.
  • Handle confidential information with integrity and in line with POPIA.
  • Participate in team targets and contribute to improved service delivery.
  • Support the Labour Centre in achieving its operational goals.
  • Conduct client interviews and verify supporting documentation.
  • Assist with the resolution of claim disputes or appeals where required.
  • Keep accurate records and prepare reports as requested by supervisors.

Requirements for the UI Claims Officer Role

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 / Senior Certificate or equivalent qualification.
  • 0 to 6 months relevant experience (entry-level friendly – training will be provided).
  • Knowledge of the Unemployment Insurance Act, Unemployment Insurance Contributions Act, Public Service Regulations, Public Service Act, and Batho Pele Principles.
  • Computer literacy and ability to work on departmental systems.
