Job Purpose The Supervisor: Cleaning Services will manage and control cleaning equipment and materials while supervising the provisioning of housekeeping, cleaning, safeguarding, and maintenance services. You will ensure the cleanliness, tidiness, hygiene, and safety of all allocated areas in the magistrate courts, perform administrative functions, identify hazards, and provide general supervision and support to the cleaning team. Key Responsibilities As a Supervisor: Cleaning Services, your core duties will include, but are not limited to: Management and Control of Equipment and Materials: Identify resource requirements and special operational needs for cleaning services. Monitor the condition and availability of cleaning equipment and materials. Ensure timely replacement or repair of faulty or outdated equipment. Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, maintenance, and inventory. Supervision of Housekeeping, Cleaning, Safeguarding, and Maintenance Services: Ensure the highest standards of cleanliness, tidiness, hygiene, and safety in all areas allocated for cleaning (offices, courtrooms, ablution facilities, corridors, etc.). Perform regular physical inspections of cleaned areas to verify compliance with standards. Oversee the removal of refuse from offices and around buildings, ensuring proper disposal in line with environmental and health regulations. Identify hazards related to fire, electricity, or other risks in the buildings and offices and take appropriate action. Ensure adherence to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards and departmental cleaning protocols. Administrative and Support Functions: Perform administration functions associated with housekeeping and cleaning services, including record-keeping and reporting. Provide general supervision and support to the cleaning team, including identifying training and development needs. Review employees’ performance and provide constructive feedback. Ensure effective team coordination and motivation to achieve cleaning targets. Monitor and manage the flow of cleaning-related information and documentation. Additional Operational Duties: Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, policies, and procedures, including the Labour Relations Act and personnel practices. Participate in risk assessments and incident reporting as required. Promote a culture of cleanliness, safety, and professionalism among the team and building users. Support broader departmental goals by contributing to a safe and conducive working environment for court staff and the public. The role involves both office-based administrative work and hands-on supervision in a court environment. You will be expected to lead by example, maintain high personal standards, and foster a positive team culture. Minimum Requirements A minimum of Grade 10 / ABET Level 4 (or equivalent qualification). Knowledge of cleaning practices, office administration, and operating cleaning equipment. Understanding of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) principles. Knowledge of personnel practices and the Labour Relations Act. Previous supervisory or team leadership experience in a cleaning or facilities management environment is advantageous. Willingness to work in a court environment and interact professionally with various stakeholders.
