About the Role

Social Workers in special schools play a vital role in supporting learners with diverse needs, including those who are deaf, blind, or have other special educational requirements. The position involves conducting assessments, providing counselling, implementing interventions, and working collaboratively with educators, parents, and other professionals to ensure holistic support for learners.

Key Performance Areas / Duties

The successful candidates will be responsible for:

  • Conducting assessments to identify the conditions and needs of learners.
  • Providing counselling to individuals, groups, families, and communities.
  • Recommending relevant and appropriate interventions.
  • Providing referrals where necessary.
  • Implementing recommended interventions and offering continuous support.
  • Monitoring the effectiveness and progress of interventions.
  • Providing psychosocial support to learners.
  • Supporting child protection initiatives.
  • Participating in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Compiling and implementing the social work policy of the school.
  • Performing all statutory functions and attending court proceedings when required.
  • Producing and maintaining accurate records and reports.
  • Liaising with relevant role players.
  • Studying, interpreting, applying, and providing information on legislation and policies.

Minimum Requirements

  • An NQF Level 7 qualification in Social Work as recognised by SAQA.
  • Valid and active registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP).
  • Relevant experience as a Social Worker.
  • Experience in working with learners with special educational needs is an added advantage.
