About the EPWP Semi-Skilled Environmental Monitor Role

Mapungubwe National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its rich cultural history, unique biodiversity, and stunning landscapes. As part of the EPWP initiative, Semi-Skilled Environmental Monitors support park operations by assisting with area integrity, wildlife security, ecological monitoring, and general park maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be responsible for the following core duties (among others):

• Support protected area functions including area integrity and wildlife security.
• Monitor and report on problem animals and wildlife movements.
• Participate in ecological monitoring, restoration, and Invasive Alien Species clearing.
• Assist with relevant conservation activities as directed by the section ranger.
• Help maintain park infrastructure, including fences, water points, roads, and general facilities.
• Participate in natural resource management and research projects.
• Assist with field data collection and capturing data onto computer systems.
• Perform general administration tasks, including timesheets, logbooks, and reports.
• Support storeroom cleaning, organisation, and stock keeping.
• Perform access control activities for staff, visitors, and safety management.
• Assist with waste management, collection, disposal, and maintaining park cleanliness.
• Help clean and maintain living quarters to ensure a safe and habitable environment.
• Support all park management activities as directed by line managers.
• Work flexible hours, including weekends and after hours when required.
• Uphold health and safety standards and report any incidents promptly.

Minimum Requirements

• NQF Level 4 (Grade 12).
• Code 08 driver’s licence.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and after hours.
• Proficient in English and other official languages with good written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be in good physical health.
• Understanding of basic principles of Health & Safety.
• No criminal record – police clearance certificate (or proof of application) must be attached.
