Job Purpose

To provide effective access control, physical security, and protection services at SAPS premises in accordance with relevant legislation. You will ensure the safety of employees, visitors, assets, and information while maintaining high standards of professionalism and compliance.

Detailed Key Responsibilities

As a Security Officer, your core duties will include:

  • Execute access control in terms of the Control of Access to Public Premises and Vehicles Act (Act No. 53 of 1985).
  • Positively identify employees, visitors, and contractors at security access points.
  • Register all individuals electronically and conduct searches where required.
  • Authorise entry after complying with legislative requirements and ensure proper escorting.
  • Issue and recover admission control cards and maintain accurate visitor registers.
  • Check suppliers, articles, and objects to protect the safety of the premises.
  • Patrol buildings, fenced-off areas, and surrounding grounds.
  • Guard vehicles and equipment from a security point of view.
  • Check all security equipment and facilities and report deficiencies immediately.
  • Control the movement of equipment and stores.
  • Adhere to prescribed security procedures (MISS, NISA, Protection of Information Act, etc.).
  • Respond promptly to emergencies, alarms, and incidents.
  • Maintain accurate occurrence books and security registers.
  • Collaborate with SAPS members to ensure a secure working environment.

The role involves shift work, including nights, weekends, and public holidays, and requires physical fitness and constant vigilance.

Minimum Requirements

  • Be a South African citizen (documentary proof required).
  • Grade 10 / Standard 8 / NCV Level 2 certificate (NQF Level 2).
  • Valid PSIRA registration.
  • At least Grade C security certificate or higher.
  • Not declared unfit to possess a firearm.
  • Willingness to undergo firearm competency training and maintain competency.
  • Proficiency in English and one other official language.
  • Willingness to work shifts and extended hours.
  • Valid driver’s licence (light motor vehicle) is an added advantage.
  • Relevant security courses are an added advantage.
