Job Purpose To provide effective access control, physical security, and protection services at SAPS Detective and Forensic Services facilities. You will ensure the safety of employees, visitors, assets, and sensitive information while maintaining high standards of professionalism and compliance with relevant legislation. Detailed Key Responsibilities As a Security Officer, your core duties will include: Execute access control in terms of the Control of Access to Public Premises and Vehicles Act (Act No. 53 of 1985). Positively identify employees, visitors, and contractors at security access points. Register employees, visitors, and contractors electronically and conduct searches where required. Authorise entry after complying with all legislative requirements, confirm visits with hosts, and ensure proper escorting. Issue and recover admission control cards for visitors and maintain accurate visitor registers. Check suppliers, articles, and objects before allowing entry to protect the safety of the premises. Patrol buildings, fenced-off areas, and surrounding grounds to deter unauthorised access. Guard vehicles and equipment from a security point of view. Check all security equipment and facilities regularly and report deficiencies to senior personnel. Control the movement of equipment and stores in and out of the premises. Adhere to prescribed security procedures (e.g., Minimum Information Security Standards – MISS, National Information Security Agency – NISA, Protection of Information Act). Respond promptly to emergencies, alarms, and security incidents. Maintain accurate occurrence books and security registers. Collaborate with SAPS members and other stakeholders to ensure a secure working environment. Perform any other security-related duties as assigned. The role involves shift work, including nights, weekends, and public holidays, and requires physical fitness and constant vigilance. Minimum Requirements Be a South African citizen (documentary proof required on the day of the interview). Grade 10 / Standard 8 / NCV Level 2 certificate (NQF Level 2 as recognised by SAQA). Valid registration with the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA). At least a Grade C security certificate or higher. Not declared unfit to possess a firearm. Willingness to undergo firearm competency training and maintain competency. Proficiency in at least English and one other official language. Willingness to work shifts and extended hours. A valid driver’s licence for a light motor vehicle will serve as an added advantage. Relevant security courses will be an added advantage.
