Job Purpose

The primary purpose of the Salesman Driver is to ensure excellent service delivery and bakery sales growth by making on-time and in-full deliveries of products according to customer requirements. You will also be responsible for the collection of payments, management of bakery sales assets, and maintaining strong relationships with trade customers on a daily basis. This role is critical for maintaining Premier’s reputation for reliability, quality, and customer focus in the competitive FMCG market.

Key Responsibilities

As a Salesman Driver, your daily duties will include a mix of driving, sales, customer service, and administrative tasks:

  • Plan and execute daily delivery routes to ensure products are delivered on time and in full to retailers, spaza shops, and other customers in the Rustenburg and surrounding areas.
  • Load and unload bakery products safely and efficiently while maintaining product integrity and quality standards.
  • Build and maintain strong, long-term trade relationships with customers, understanding their needs and offering solutions to grow their business.
  • Collect payments from customers and reconcile cash and card transactions accurately.
  • Manage bakery sales assets (crates, trays, etc.) and ensure proper returns and accountability.
  • Promote Premier products and identify opportunities for additional sales during deliveries.
  • Provide excellent customer service by addressing queries, resolving complaints, and ensuring a positive experience at every interaction.
  • Maintain accurate records of deliveries, sales, collections, and stock movements.
  • Adhere to all company policies, safety procedures, and road traffic regulations while driving.
  • Report any vehicle or product issues promptly to the supervisor.
  • Work collaboratively with the sales and production teams to achieve daily, weekly, and monthly targets.
  • Assist with merchandising, product displays, and promotional activities at customer sites when required.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and customer feedback to provide insights to management.
  • Ensure high standards of personal presentation and professionalism at all times.
  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and performance reviews.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance delivery efficiency and customer satisfaction.

The role operates in a pressurised environment and requires flexibility to work a 6-day week, including Saturdays, Sundays, and Public Holidays as per business needs. You may also be required to work in alternative areas when operationally necessary.

Minimum Requirements and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must meet the following criteria:

Qualifications:

  • Matric / Grade 12 qualification – essential.

Experience:

  • Valid Driver’s Licence Code 10 / C1 with Professional Driving Permit (PDP) that is at least 3 years old – essential.
  • 1–3 years’ experience in a sales or retail environment – essential.
  • Previous experience as a Salesman Driver or in a similar distribution role will be a strong advantage.
