Detailed Duties and Responsibilities

As a Room Attendant, your work will focus on maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene across tourism facilities. Key responsibilities include:

  • Thoroughly cleaning and preparing guest rooms to the highest hospitality standards.
  • Changing and replacing bed linen, towels, and other amenities after each guest departure.
  • Emptying waste bins and ensuring proper waste disposal and recycling.
  • Cleaning kitchens, crockery, cutlery, and all kitchen surfaces.
  • Washing, ironing, and properly storing linen.
  • Maintaining cleanliness in public areas, conference halls, ablution facilities, and surrounding grounds.
  • Checking and replacing light bulbs and reporting any damaged items or maintenance needs.
  • Ensuring guest supplies (toiletries, tea/coffee stations, etc.) are always stocked and refreshed.
  • Completing hospitality forms and recording guest feedback where required.
  • Adhering to all health, safety, and hospitality standards at all times.
  • Working efficiently to meet daily targets while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Assisting with general housekeeping duties during peak seasons or special events.
  • Maintaining a professional and friendly attitude when interacting with guests.
  • Supporting the broader reserve team with other reasonable duties as required.

Requirements for the Room Attendant Position

Minimum Requirements:

  • NQF Level 3 qualification (Grade 8 / ABET / AET certificate or equivalent) recognised by SAQA.
  • Physically fit and healthy with no medical conditions that may prevent you from performing manual tasks.
  • No criminal record.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays.

Advantageous:

  • Housekeeping certificate or previous experience in hospitality/housekeeping.
