Detailed Duties and Responsibilities As a Professional Nurse Grade 1, you will provide quality clinical nursing care in accordance with the scope of practice. Key responsibilities include: Delivering comprehensive nursing care to patients in line with SANC regulations and facility protocols. Promoting quality nursing care through adherence to professional standards and the National Core Standards. Participating in the implementation of the Ideal Hospital/ Clinic Realisation Framework. Assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care using the nursing process. Administering medication safely and monitoring patient responses. Providing health education and promotion to patients, families, and communities. Maintaining accurate patient records and ensuring proper documentation. Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams for holistic patient management. Participating in quality improvement initiatives, audits, and infection prevention programmes. Managing emergencies and providing first-line care where required. Supervising and mentoring junior staff and students. Ensuring effective communication with patients, relatives, and colleagues. Requirements for the Professional Nurse Position Minimum Requirements: Senior Certificate / Grade 12. Basic qualification (Diploma or Degree in General Nursing) accredited with the South African Nursing Council (SANC). Current registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse (2026 registration essential). Ability to function independently and prioritise work effectively. Strong leadership, interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Advantageous: Post-basic qualifications in any clinical speciality. Experience in a public health or hospital setting.
