Detailed Duties and Responsibilities

As a Professional Nurse Grade 1, you will provide quality clinical nursing care in accordance with the scope of practice. Key responsibilities include:

• Delivering comprehensive nursing care to patients in line with SANC regulations and facility protocols.
• Promoting quality nursing care through adherence to professional standards and the National Core Standards.
• Participating in the implementation of the Ideal Hospital/ Clinic Realisation Framework.
• Assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care using the nursing process.
• Administering medication safely and monitoring patient responses.
• Providing health education and promotion to patients, families, and communities.
• Maintaining accurate patient records and ensuring proper documentation.
• Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams for holistic patient management.
• Participating in quality improvement initiatives, audits, and infection prevention programmes.
• Managing emergencies and providing first-line care where required.
• Supervising and mentoring junior staff and students.
• Ensuring effective communication with patients, relatives, and colleagues.

Requirements for the Professional Nurse Position

Minimum Requirements:

• Senior Certificate / Grade 12.
• Basic qualification (Diploma or Degree in General Nursing) accredited with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
• Current registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse (2026 registration essential).
• Ability to function independently and prioritise work effectively.
• Strong leadership, interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
