This is a permanent C2 graded position responsible for the safe opening up of ore reserves through face blasting and extracting ore from underground working areas. If you have a Blasting Certificate, Grade 10 or equivalent, and 2–3 years’ mining experience, this is an excellent opportunity to join a major platinum producer.

Job Purpose

The Miner is accountable for the safe opening up of ore reserves through face blasting and extracting ore from underground working areas. This includes meeting production targets by the safe blasting of underground excavations on the stoping horizon, including the development of waste and reef footprint.

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Blasting Certificate
  • Grade 10 or equivalent
  • At least 2–3 years’ mining experience

The Appointee Should

  • Hold a valid First Aid Certificate
  • Be medically fit to work in the specific business area
  • Have a clear security screening record

Key Responsibilities

SHERQ (Safety, Health, Environment, Risk & Quality)

  • Ensure that team members adhere to PPE requirements
  • Participate in required SHERQ meetings, interventions and campaigns
  • Conduct accident and incident investigations and implement necessary measures to avoid re-occurrence
  • Ensure compliance with mine standards and procedures
  • Report all incidents and/or near-miss incidents to the relevant parties
  • Liaise with safety representatives and team members
  • Conduct Safe Behavioural Observations (SBOs) and Planned Task Observations (PTOs)
  • Maintain and comply with SHERQ standards within the work environment
  • Participate in risk assessments and take appropriate action on identified risks
  • Ensure adherence to all company policies and procedures

Production

  • Conduct daily re-entry examinations
  • Mark-off of support
  • Identify the reef band and mark the face as per geological reports
  • Charge up the face and conduct safe blasting
  • Plan and coordinate mining activities in line with targets and objectives

Administration

  • Accurately complete all required documentation and administration
  • Conduct planning for leave cycles
  • Achieve production targets and efficiencies
  • Ensure effective utilisation of available resources (material, machinery and people)

People Management

  • Provide coaching and on-the-job training to reporting staff
  • Manage performance and development of reporting staff
  • Ensure fair work allocation for team members
  • Inspire team members towards high performance
