Purpose of the Job

To ensure continuous plant availability through the effective cleaning, maintenance, and support of HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) equipment and surrounding areas in the Secunda Operations facility.

Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities

As a General Worker, your daily duties will focus on supporting HVAC system reliability through hands-on maintenance and housekeeping tasks. You will be expected to:

  • Prioritise safety and adhere to all Sasol safety policies, procedures, and standards at all times.
  • Maintain excellent housekeeping standards across all work areas.
  • Perform maintenance on HVAC equipment and related systems.
  • Wash and clean filters on HVAC units.
  • Clean cooling towers and associated equipment.
  • Sand and paint HVAC units and surrounding structures to prevent corrosion.
  • Clean storerooms, plant rooms, and HVAC yards thoroughly.
  • Safely carry tools and equipment (within maximum allowable weight limits).
  • Operate a mobile high-pressure (Wap HP) machine mounted on a trailer for cleaning tasks.
  • Assist artisans and technicians during maintenance shutdowns and routine servicing.
  • Report any equipment defects, hazards, or abnormalities immediately.
  • Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Work effectively as part of a team to achieve daily and weekly targets.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed where required.
  • Support general plant cleaning and waste removal activities.

The role involves physical work in an industrial environment and may require working at heights or in confined spaces with proper training and safety measures.

Minimum Requirements

Formal Education:

  • National Senior Certificate (Matric / Grade 12) or N3 qualification.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and correspond in English.

Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year relevant experience in a mechanical or maintenance environment.
  • Practical experience using hand tools and power tools.

Licence:

  • Valid Driver’s Licence (Code EB) is compulsory.
  • Code EC1 will be a strong advantage.

Other Requirements:

  • Physically fit and able to perform manual labour.
  • Willing to work shifts, overtime, and weekends when required.
  • No criminal record that may affect employment in a high-risk industrial environment.
  • South African citizen.
