Job Purpose

Detailed Key Responsibilities

As a Food Service Aid, your core duties will include:

• Prepare and serve refreshments to staff, trainees, and visitors according to academy requirements.
• Render general food service support functions in the kitchen and dining areas.
• Prepare meals following standard recipes and hygiene protocols.
• Clean kitchen equipment, utensils, and work surfaces after use.
• Prepare and maintain dining halls to a high standard of cleanliness and presentation.
• Ensure a clean and hygienic working environment at all times, including proper waste disposal.
• Follow strict food safety and occupational health and safety procedures.
• Assist with stock control, receiving deliveries, and proper storage of food items.
• Report any equipment faults, shortages, or maintenance issues to the supervisor promptly.
• Work collaboratively with the kitchen team to achieve daily meal service targets.
• Perform any other reasonable duties as assigned by supervisors.

The role involves working in a busy kitchen environment and may require shift work, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays to support training schedules.

Minimum Requirements

• Be a South African citizen (documentary proof required on the day of the interview).
• ABET Level 4 / Grade 9 / Standard 7 certificate (NQF Level 1 as recognised by SAQA).
• Understanding of how to handle cleaning detergents and basic occupational health and safety protocols.
• Basic literacy, numeracy, and communication skills.
• Ability to read and write.
• Ability to interact with other officials in a professional manner.
• The ability to operate elementary machines and equipment.
• Willingness to work extended hours when necessary.
