Detailed Duties and Responsibilities

As a Driver, your work will combine transportation, messenger duties, and general office support. Key responsibilities include:

  • Performing general messenger and delivery services for the department.
  • Sorting and arranging correspondence, files, and documents in the registry.
  • Collecting submissions and other official documents from assigned offices.
  • Rendering a professional driver service, including driving light and medium motor vehicles to transport passengers and goods.
  • Performing routine maintenance on the allocated vehicle (checking oil, water, tyres, etc.).
  • Ensuring the vehicle is always clean, roadworthy, and compliant with departmental policies.
  • Sorting mail, files, documents, and parcels for distribution.
  • Delivering mail, files, documents, and parcels to addressees across the province.
  • Ensuring that recipients sign the delivery book/register for all items.
  • Recording contents and physical addresses accurately in the delivery book/register.
  • Performing general office assistant tasks, including making photocopies, faxing, and shredding documents.
  • Rendering auxiliary administrative support as required by the team.
  • Supporting the security profile of the office by following proper protocols.
  • Assisting with registry-related activities and operator-related tasks when needed.
  • Maintaining accurate logs of all trips, deliveries, and vehicle usage.
  • Reporting any vehicle defects, accidents, or incidents immediately to the supervisor.
  • Adhering to all traffic regulations, departmental policies, and safety procedures.
  • Providing excellent internal customer service to colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Working flexibly to meet urgent delivery and transportation needs.

Requirements for the Driver Position

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 10 certificate or equivalent appropriate qualification recognised by SAQA.
  • Valid driver’s licence.
