Detailed Key Responsibilities

As a Cleaner, your core duties will include:

  • Maintaining a high level of hygiene in and around the workplace, including cleaning both interior and exterior areas of assigned SAPS premises.
  • Performing routine cleaning tasks such as dusting, polishing furniture and floors, vacuuming carpets, and mopping tiled surfaces.
  • Removing refuse and ensuring proper waste disposal.
  • Cleaning bathrooms, kitchens, and other high-use areas to the highest hygiene standards.
  • Performing basic maintenance tasks in and around the premises as required.
  • Safekeeping and correct handling of cleaning detergents, equipment, and aids.
  • Loading and unloading of goods when necessary.
  • Garden maintenance services, including basic landscaping and grounds upkeep.
  • Washing and cleaning of state vehicles, kitchenware, and utensils.
  • Reporting any maintenance issues, damages, or safety hazards to the supervisor promptly.
  • Adhering to occupational health and safety protocols at all times.
  • Working collaboratively with other support staff to ensure overall facility cleanliness and tidiness.

The role involves physical work and may require shift duties or extended hours depending on operational needs.

Minimum Requirements

  • Be a South African citizen (documentary proof required on the day of the interview).
  • ABET Level 4 / Grade 9 / Standard 7 / NQF Level 1 qualification (documentary proof required when needed).
  • Proficiency in at least English and one other official language.
  • Understanding of how to handle cleaning detergents and basic occupational health and safety protocols.
  • Basic literacy, numeracy, and communication skills.
  • Ability to read and write.
  • Ability to interact with other officials in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Willingness to work extended hours when necessary.
  • Knowledge of elementary machines and equipment operation (advantageous).
