Job Purpose

To safely and professionally drive buses to transport passengers on scheduled services over established routes. You will ensure the comfort, safety, and on-time arrival of all passengers while maintaining the highest standards of vehicle care, compliance, and customer service. Key Responsibilities

As a Bus Driver – Passenger, your daily duties will include:

• Safely operate assigned buses on scheduled routes, observing all traffic laws, speed limits, and road conditions to ensure the safe arrival of passengers.
• Perform thorough pre-trip inspections of the bus, including brakes, lights, tyres, fluid levels, and safety equipment. Record any defects and report them immediately.
• Control lighting, heating, ventilation, and other onboard systems to ensure passenger comfort.
• Observe prescribed speeds, traffic signals, and travelling conditions at all times.
• Register passengers on trips and ensure proper boarding and alighting procedures are followed.
• Maintain cleanliness of the vehicle and ensure it is refuelled and kept in good condition at all times.
• Complete accurate logbooks, trip reports, and other required documentation after every shift.
• Adhere to company codes of conduct, policies, procedures, and health and safety regulations (WSWPs).
• Report near misses, incidents, property damage, or any deviations from standards immediately to management.
• Participate in Defensive Driving and other safety training programmes.
• Comply with the customer’s SMS policy and all traffic laws.
• Avoid unauthorised route deviations and make stops only at authorised points unless instructed otherwise.
• Remove ignition keys and secure the vehicle properly after parking.
• Use seat belts at all times and ensure all passengers are safely transported.
• Participate in DSS sessions, training, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Assist with any other reasonable duties as requested by management.

The role requires shift work, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays, depending on scheduled services.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 / Matric or equivalent – essential.
• Valid Driver’s Licence categories: CE-G, CE-PG, and C-G – essential.
• Valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP) – essential.
• Minimum 5 years experience in the same or similar position as a Bus Driver – essential.
• Job-specific training in passenger transport.
• Clean driving record with no major violations.
• Physically and medically fit for professional driving duties.
• Ability to read, understand, and apply the Unitrans Driver’s Manual, road rules, and company procedures.
• South African citizen with a valid ID.
