Key Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be responsible for the following core duties (among others):

• Conduct environmental monitoring and gather field data for research and management purposes.
• Participate actively in law enforcement operations, including anti-poaching patrols.
• Assist with the maintenance of predator fences and other park infrastructure.
• Take part in fire management, alien plant eradication, and land rehabilitation activities.
• Ensure the safety of BSP teams and individuals when working in areas with dangerous animals.
• Support general infrastructure maintenance across the park and sections.
• Perform basic data capture and quality control of field records.
• Assist with the management and maintenance of assets and equipment.
• Support Section Rangers with routine tasks and ad-hoc duties as required.
• Work weekends, public holidays, and irregular/long hours when operationally necessary.
• Maintain a high level of professionalism, discipline, and passion for nature conservation.
• Report any incidents, observations, or maintenance needs promptly.
• Uphold all SANParks policies, safety protocols, and ethical standards.

Minimum Requirements

• Matric / Grade 12 / NCV 4 / NQF Level 4.
• Field Ranger training certificates or NQF Level 2 qualification.
• EMI Grade 5 training certificate (Card) will be a strong advantage.
• Self-loading Firearm training certificates with valid SAPS competency certificate (Private and Business unit standards).
• Firearms Regulation 21/79 annual retraining certificates.
• Minimum of two years’ experience in anti-poaching operations in a Big Five environment (added advantage).
• Firefighter training certificate (added advantage).
• No criminal record.
• Must pass a fitness test.
• Valid Code 8 driver’s licence will be an added advantage.
• Passion for nature conservation and willingness to work in remote field conditions.

Note: Successful candidates will undergo a medical test and must provide a police clearance certificate (or it will be conducted in the park).

• Duration: Fixed-term contract until 31 March 2027 (renewable by mutual agreement and subject to funding).
