Position Overview

Job Title: Trainee Train Assistant

🎯 Main Purpose

To assist the Train Driver in safely operating different types of trains (freight and passenger), ensuring cargo reaches its destination safely and on time.

🔹 Key Responsibilities

You will:

• Sign on duty and prepare locomotives for service

• Assist with brake tests and locomotive start-up

• Perform pre-trip inspections and safety checks

• Help with coupling/uncoupling wagons

• Carry out shunting activities in sidings

• Assist the driver during trips (signal observation, safety monitoring, emergencies)

• Complete administrative duties (train journal, reports)

• Follow strict safety and operational procedures

🔹 Minimum Requirements

🎓 Education

• Grade 12 (Matric)

• Must have Pure Mathematics and/or Physical Science

⚠️ Other Requirements

• Must be 21 years or older

• Minimum height: 1.6 metres

• Physically and mentally fit (medical tests required)

• Good hearing and vision

• Must pass psychomotor assessments (Vienna Testing System)

• Able to carry heavy objects

• Willing to work shifts

• Willing to undergo theoretical and practical training
