Job Responsibilities: Hands-On Maintenance in a World-Class Park

As a Handyman reporting to the relevant Line Manager, you’ll perform essential semi-skilled maintenance tasks to ensure the park’s facilities remain safe, functional, and welcoming for visitors and staff. This full-time role involves a mix of physical work, administrative duties, and teamwork in sometimes challenging outdoor conditions.

Key responsibilities include:

• Carrying out repairs and maintenance in plumbing, welding, air conditioning and refrigerator servicing, electrical works, carpentry, and civil tasks to meet quality and productivity standards.
• Performing routine upkeep on tourist buildings, terrain, staff accommodation, ablution blocks, administration offices, and infrastructure like electricity systems, borehole pumps, sewer systems, buildings, and equipment.
• Inspecting and assisting with maintenance contractors’ work to ensure compliance.
• Recording daily maintenance activities, identifying needs, and maintaining accurate logs.
• Transporting equipment, materials, and staff; conducting vehicle inspections.
• Supporting planning, scheduling, and execution of technical tasks.
• Ordering stock, assisting with supply chain processes, and performing basic housekeeping or ad-hoc duties as assigned.
• Handling general administrative tasks, including stock/inventory recording, timesheets, log sheets, leave forms, and month-end reporting.

This position requires flexibility, including weekends and public holidays, and the ability to work under pressure in unfavourable conditions. Candidates will undergo a practical assessment to demonstrate skills.

Requirements: Qualifications and Skills Needed

To succeed as a SANParks Handyman in Table Mountain National Park, candidates must meet these essential criteria:

• Education: Grade 12 (Matric)/NCV Level 4 or equivalent.
• Driver’s License: Valid Code B driver’s license (essential).
• Experience: Minimum of three (3) years practical experience in a technical/maintenance field.
