Job Overview

Eskom is currently recruiting Utilityman Site (Shutter Hand) positions for the Normandie Substation in Mpumalanga.

This role involves manual and semi-skilled construction work, including heavy labour activities such as lifting, carrying, moving materials, and assisting with shuttering and formwork operations in a construction environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain a clean and safe working environment

• Perform housekeeping duties for tools and equipment

• Read and interpret construction drawings and plans

• Assess and inspect shuttering and formwork materials

• Assess reinforcing layouts before installation

• Erect shuttering and formwork structures

• Install required consumables and materials

• Compile and participate in HIRA (Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment)

• Strict adherence to SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment & Quality) standards

• Comply with Eskom’s safety rules and organisational policies

Skills Required

• Physical stamina for heavy manual labour

• Ability to work with power and hand tools

• Knowledge of cabling and construction practices

• Ability to work at heights

• Time management skills

• Willingness to work overtime when required

• Conflict resolution skills

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Knowledge & Competency

• Understanding of work procedures within the construction discipline

• Basic knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA)

• Ability to identify and use appropriate tools and equipment

• Practical technical skills

• Safety awareness and risk prevention

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

• Grade 12 (Matric)

• Relevant CETA-accredited skills programme or
  Occupational Certificate – Shutter Hand

Experience

• 1–2 years’ experience in a technical or construction field

• Experience relevant to shuttering or formwork will be advantageous
