Job Details

• Position: Typist (x2 Posts)
• Salary: R193,359 – R227,766 per annum (Level 04)
• Contract: Successful candidates must sign a performance agreement
• Locations:
  • Bhisho: Eastern Cape Division of the High Court (Ref No: 2025/121/OCJ)
  • Mthatha: Eastern Cape Division of the High Court (Ref No: 2025/122/OCJ)

Requirements

To qualify for these Typist positions, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Education: Grade 12 certificate (Matric)
• Experience: No prior experience required
• Advantage: A three-year relevant qualification (National Diploma at NQF Level 6, 360 credits, SAQA-recognized)
• Assessment: Shortlisted candidates will undergo a pre-entry practical exercise to evaluate suitability based on technical and generic requirements

Key Skills and Competencies

• Computer literacy (Microsoft Office)
• Typing speed of at least 35 words per minute
• Dictaphone typing proficiency
• Strong problem-solving and time management skills
• Effective communication (written and verbal)
• Client-oriented with a focus on customer service
• Knowledge of legal terminology, court procedures, and Public Service regulations (Batho Pele principles)
• Team player with reliability, honesty, and integrity

Key Responsibilities

As a Typist at the Eastern Cape High Court, you will:

• Type court orders, judgments, and related documents as per endorsements on court files
• Amend judgments based on Judges’ instructions
• Compile and maintain term rolls, weekly rolls, and opposed/unopposed motion rolls
• Draft term rolls in line with Gazette terms
• Submit orders and judgments to relevant stakeholders
