As a Storeman, you will be a key player in the supply chain, ensuring that all procured goods are received, inspected, stored, and issued efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy, hygiene, and safety.

Job Purpose

The Storeman will be responsible for the accurate and efficient management of goods receipt, storage, and transfer transactions. You will provide excellent support to all departments by receiving, inspecting, and distributing procured goods while maintaining high standards of inventory control, organisation, and compliance with company procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Receive and inspect incoming goods and materials against purchase orders and delivery notes.
  • Verify deliveries for quantity, quality, condition, and completeness before acceptance.
  • Store items safely and systematically in designated locations, ensuring proper stock rotation (FIFO).
  • Pick, pack, and issue stock to internal departments according to company procedures and requisitions.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date inventory and stock records using computer systems.
  • Conduct regular stock counts, cycle counts, and inventory audits.
  • Monitor stock levels and promptly report shortages, excess stock, or damaged items to the supervisor.
  • Ensure proper labelling and identification of all materials in the store.
  • Keep storage areas clean, organised, and safe at all times, adhering to food safety and hygiene standards.
  • Operate warehouse equipment such as pallet jacks or forklifts (if licensed and trained).
  • Assist with other supply chain, procurement, and administrative tasks as required.
  • Comply with all company policies, procedures, and health and safety regulations.

The role involves physically active work in a warehouse environment and requires attention to detail, accuracy, and a proactive approach.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric – preferred.
  • Storekeeping, Warehousing, or Logistics qualification will be a strong advantage.
  • Valid Forklift Licence is advantageous.
  • At least 3 years’ proven experience in storekeeping or warehousing.
  • Good planning and organisational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer literacy (experience with NAV or any Warehouse Management System is highly advantageous).
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Strong administrative skills and a proactive mindset.
  • Physically fit and able to handle manual lifting and standing for extended periods.
