Job Purpose

The Shop Assistant / Cashier will be responsible for delivering service excellence through efficient point-of-sale (POS) operations, customer service, and merchandising. You will ensure accurate transactions, promote the Clicks ClubCard, and contribute to a positive shopping experience that keeps customers coming back. This role is central to driving sales, maintaining store standards, and upholding the Clicks brand promise of quality and value.

As a Cashier, you will be the face of the store at the checkout, handling payments, resolving queries, and creating a welcoming atmosphere. As a Shop Assistant, you will support general store operations, including merchandising, stock management, and customer assistance across the floor.

Key Responsibilities

Your daily duties as a Shop Assistant / Cashier at Clicks Daspoort will include:

Point of Sale Operations:

• Efficiently execute all operational activities at the point of sale in a timely and accurate manner.
• Scan merchandise and process payments using cash, card, vouchers, or other accepted methods.
• Action ClubCard rewards and promotions to enhance customer value.
• Ensure the safe handling of cash at all times and reconcile tills according to company procedures.
• Prepare for the start of day and end-of-day procedures, including cash-up and banking.

Customer Service Excellence:

• Deliver superior customer service by acting as a brand ambassador and offering friendly, professional assistance.
• Proactively promote the Clicks ClubCard and enroll new members to achieve participation targets.
• Make customers aware of current promotions, sales, and special offers to positively influence sales.
• Address customer queries, complaints, and feedback professionally, escalating issues when necessary.
• Provide product information, location assistance, and recommendations to enhance the shopping experience.

Merchandising and Housekeeping:

• Maintain high merchandising standards by ensuring products are properly displayed, rotated, and priced.
• Keep the store environment clean, organised, and visually appealing at all times.
• Adhere to all housekeeping schedules and visual merchandising guidelines.
• Support stock replenishment and shelf organisation to maximise sales potential.

Administration and Compliance:

• Complete all required documentation accurately, including sales reports and transaction records.
• Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and health and safety regulations.
• Participate in stock takes, inventory counts, and loss prevention activities to minimise shrinkage.
• Report any discrepancies, damages, or security concerns to the supervisor immediately.

Team Collaboration:

• Work effectively as part of the store team to achieve daily sales and operational targets.
• Support colleagues during peak periods and contribute to a positive team culture.
• Participate in training sessions and continuous improvement initiatives.

The role requires the ability to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays, and the capacity to stand for long periods in a busy store environment.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 / Matric – essential.
• Minimum 6 months retail or cashier experience is advantageous.
• Basic computer literacy (MS Office) – essential.
• Strong numerical skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Presentable appearance and professional demeanour.
• Ability to work under pressure and as part of a team.
• Must have reliable transport to be able to work shifts.

Desirable:

• Maths and English at 50% or higher in Grade 12.
• Previous experience in a customer-facing retail or FMCG environment.
