Job Purpose

As a Road Worker, you will perform routine manual and semi-skilled tasks in road construction and maintenance. You will work as part of a team under the supervision of a Road Work Foreman to keep provincial roads safe, functional, and well-maintained for all users.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Construction of culverts and side drains.
  • Erection and maintenance of steel guardrails and gabions.
  • Construction of road earthworks and layer works.
  • Cleaning and maintaining roads, sidewalks, verges, and resting areas (verge maintenance).
  • Surfacing and pothole patching.
  • Road fencing and pipe laying.
  • Setting of road markings, studs, and distance markers.
  • Installation of road signs and barricading of work areas.
  • Crushing of road material.
  • Brush clearing and grass cutting.
  • General labour and support tasks on road maintenance sites.

You will work outdoors in all weather conditions and must be prepared to perform physically demanding tasks as part of a team.

Minimum Requirements

  • NQF Level 1 or 2 (ABET Level 2 certificate or equivalent).
  • Ability to read and write.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Teamwork orientation and flexibility.
  • Basic numeracy and aptitude with figures.
  • Computer literacy (advantageous).
  • Planning and organising skills.
  • Willingness to work outdoors and in various weather conditions.
  • Physically fit and able to perform manual labour.
