Job Purpose

The main purpose of the Premier FMCG Heavy Driver position is to ensure that products are delivered from the Durban Wheat Mill to their destinations safely, efficiently and on time.

The driver will also be responsible for ensuring that the vehicle, stock, pallets and delivery documentation are properly managed throughout each trip.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of driving, delivery and vehicle-related duties, including:

• Delivering products from the Durban Wheat Mill efficiently and on time.
• Keeping the truck clean, neat and in good condition.
• Completing daily vehicle inspections before operating the truck.
• Reporting vehicle defects to the relevant fleet controller or supervisor.
• Ensuring vehicle checklists are completed, signed and submitted correctly.
• Reporting accidents and other incidents to management as soon as possible.
• Checking that all Proof of Delivery (POD) documents are properly signed and stamped.
• Keeping all PODs and other required documents properly controlled.
• Managing fuel consumption according to company targets.
• Monitoring the loading and offloading of stock from the truck.
• Ensuring that all stock loaded and delivered is accounted for accurately.
• Monitoring CHEP pallet loading and offloading.
• Maintaining accurate pallet records.
• Keeping fuel slips, toll slips, trip sheets, PODs and other transport documents in order.
• Supervising and managing the two crew members working on the truck.
• Following company procedures and safety requirements.
• Working responsibly to protect company stock and equipment.

Premier FMCG Driver Requirements

Applicants interested in the Driver: Heavy vacancy in Durban must meet the following minimum requirements:

• Matric or Grade 12.
• 2 to 3 years of experience in a similar heavy driver position.
• A valid Code 14 Driver’s Licence.
• A valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
• Willingness to work overtime when required.
• Own reliable transport to and from work.
• No criminal record.

The driver is responsible for ensuring that the PDP remains valid and is renewed on time each year.
