The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is recruiting six Porters for permanent positions at Tygerberg Hospital in Parow Valley. These Level 02 posts offer a basic salary of R144 024 per annum and play an essential support role in the efficient functioning of one of South Africa’s largest tertiary hospitals.

Minimum Requirements

• Basic numeracy and literacy
• Appropriate experience in a healthcare environment

Inherent Requirements of the Job:

• Willingness to work shifts and ability to report for duty at 06:30 (weekends included)
• Willingness to handle bodies (corpses)
• Ability to handle heavy objects
• Willingness to work irregular hours as required

Competencies (Knowledge/Skills):

• Good communication skills
• Ability to adhere to safety standards, infection control and prevention of cross-contamination

Key Duties

• Transport patients and corpses
• Transport blood specimens from various wards to various laboratories and vice versa
• Assist with loading of patients in and out of ambulances, vehicles, beds, trolleys or wheelchairs and vice versa
• Responsible for collecting and cleaning of wheelchairs, trolleys and blood hampers
