About the Learnership

The Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison (DCSSL) invites applications from unemployed South African youth for its 2025/2026 Basic Traffic Officers Diploma Learnership Programme. This prestigious 12-month training opportunity aims to develop competent and disciplined traffic officers who will contribute to road safety and law enforcement within the province and across South Africa.

The training will be conducted at the Mpumalanga Traffic Training College in Mkhuhlu (Calcutta), located in the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality. Upon successful completion, learners will receive a Diploma in Basic Traffic Officer (NQF Level 4) — a nationally recognized qualification that equips participants for careers in traffic management, law enforcement, and road safety education.


Programme Objectives

The primary goal of this learnership is to:

  • Empower and prepare young South Africans for meaningful employment within the traffic and transport sectors.

  • Equip learners with theoretical knowledge and practical experience in traffic control, road safety enforcement, accident prevention, and traffic law administration.

  • Promote discipline, integrity, and accountability in public service.

  • Support the Department’s commitment to employment equity and diversity, ensuring fair representation across race, gender, and disability.


Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this programme, applicants must meet the following minimum eligibility criteria:

  • Must have a Grade 12 (Matric) certificate or an equivalent qualification.

  • Must possess a valid Code B (light motor vehicle) driver’s license.

  • Must be a South African citizen with a valid South African ID.

  • Must have no criminal record or pending criminal cases.

  • Must be medically and physically fit, capable of performing strenuous physical training (medical assessments will be conducted for shortlisted candidates).

  • Must demonstrate a commitment to learning, discipline, and community service.

  • Must be unemployed and not currently enrolled in any other learnership or training programme.

Candidates will also be subjected to driving and competency tests as part of the selection process.

Applicants are required to:

  1. Complete the new Z83 application form fully and accurately via the online system.

  2. Upload a detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV) that includes at least three (3) contactable references.

  3. Ensure all personal details, contact numbers, and qualification information are correct and complete.

⚠️ Important: Incomplete or inaccurate applications will result in automatic disqualification.

Note: Copies of educational qualifications, ID, and other supporting documents must not be uploaded at this stage. Only shortlisted candidates will be asked to submit certified copies of these documents on or before the day of the interview.

The Department will conduct comprehensive personnel suitability checks on all shortlisted candidates, covering the following areas:

  • Verification of educational qualifications

  • Criminal record checks

  • Citizenship verification

  • Financial record checks

  • Driver’s license validation

Successful candidates will be required to:

  • Sign a 12-month learnership contract with the Department.

  • Attend and complete the training programme at the Mpumalanga Traffic Training College.

  • Abide by the rules, codes of conduct, and performance standards set by the training institution and the Department.

Upon completion of the programme, learners will receive a Diploma in Basic Traffic Officer (NQF Level 4), making them eligible to apply for employment opportunities in traffic law enforcement agencies across the country.
