Job Description

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for a dedicated and customer-focused Merchandiser for our Victory Park store in Randburg. The successful candidate will ensure that Dis-Chem’s merchandising standards are effectively implemented and maintained, contributing to an enhanced shopping experience for our customers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Restocking Merchandise: Ensure shelves are replenished with stock to maximize sales opportunities.
• Stock Management: Receive stock deliveries and ensure products are stored and packed correctly in a timely manner.
• Product Rotation: Facilitate the regular rotation of stock, following the FIFO (First In, First Out) principle.
• Quality Control: Monitor stock levels and report any low stock, out-of-stock items, or damaged and expired stock to management.
• Store Presentation: Maintain neat and orderly shelves with proper labeling and pricing. Build and maintain merchandising displays according to company standards.
• Inventory Management: Assist in stock counting and general inventory tasks.
• Customer Service: Provide friendly and professional assistance to customers, handling stock-related inquiries and ensuring customer satisfaction.
• Compliance: Adhere to Dis-Chem’s operational standards, including store layout, planograms, and health and safety regulations.
• Training: Support the onboarding and training of new staff members.
• Loss Prevention: Minimize losses by carefully handling all merchandise and reporting any suspicious behavior.

Minimum Requirements:

• Essential:
  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • Up to 6 months of retail experience
  • Computer literacy, specifically MS Office
  • Willing and able to work retail hours
• Advantageous:
  • At least 1 year of retail experience

Competencies and Skills:

• Essential:
  • Strong command of the English language
  • Presentable appearance
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Time management skills
  • Trustworthy and honest
• Advantageous:
  • Bilingual abilities
  • Knowledge of merchandising standards and the FMCG industry
  • Familiarity with product and category management
  • Ability to analyze ZMORE reports for ordering and stock-taking
  • Reporting bad or suspicious behavior by both staff and customers

Special Conditions of Employment:

• Willingness and ability to work retail hours, including weekends and holidays
• Physically fit and able to lift and move heavy boxes in compliance with health and safety standards
• Must have reliable transport or reside close to the store
• South African citizen with clear credit and criminal records
