General Manager Vacancy at Studio 88 – Senior Retail Leadership Role (Head Office – Operations)

Studio 88, one of Southern Africa’s largest and fastest-growing retailers of branded fashion clothing and footwear, is looking for a dynamic and results-driven General Manager to lead operations across multiple regions.

This senior management position offers the opportunity to drive strategic growth, operational excellence, and profitability for a leading fashion retail group with a strong presence across South Africa.

Job Summary

The General Manager will provide strategic and operational leadership to Regional Managers and their respective store clusters. You will be fully accountable for sales performance, profitability, brand standards, people management, and operational efficiency across your allocated regions. This role is critical in translating group strategy into outstanding in-store execution while driving sustainable business growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Translate Group strategy into actionable regional execution plans.
• Drive monthly sales targets, gross margins, and overall profitability.
• Mentor, coach, and hold Regional Managers accountable for performance.
• Lead recruitment, performance management, disciplinary processes, and succession planning.
• Oversee promotions, markdowns, visual merchandising, and seasonal trading initiatives.
• Conduct regular store visits and operational reviews to maintain high standards.
• Manage inventory, loss prevention, shrink, and asset control.
• Provide market intelligence on customer trends, competitor activity, and growth opportunities.
• Support new store openings, lease negotiations, and network expansion.
• Ensure full compliance with labour legislation, company policies, and retail standards.
• Deliver accurate and timely management reports on sales, stock, and KPIs.

Minimum Requirements & Experience

• Grade 12 (Matric) – essential.
• A relevant tertiary qualification (Degree, Diploma or Certificate) in Retail Management, Business Management, or similar will be a strong advantage.
• Minimum 5–10 years senior retail leadership experience, with proven multi-site or regional profit & loss responsibility.
• Strong track record of delivering sales growth, margin improvement, and operational excellence.
• Solid understanding of South African labour legislation and retail compliance.
• Experience in fashion retail, seasonal trading cycles, promotions, and loss prevention.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Willingness to travel extensively across regions.
