The Department of Tourism, in partnership with South African National Parks (SANParks), invites applications for the EPWP Tourism Monitors Programme 2026. This is a 4-month temporary employment opportunity ending 31 August 2026. Successful candidates will be deployed at tourism attractions and sites close to their place of residence (within 40–50 km radius). The programme offers valuable work experience in the tourism sector while supporting visitor services at national parks. Total Positions: 13 Contract Duration: 4 months Closing Date: 20 April 2026 Available Sites and Positions Table Mountain National Park – Ref: TMNPX9R (9 positions) Local Municipality: City of Cape Town Agulhas National Park – Ref: ANPX3R (3 positions) Local Municipality: Cape Agulhas Municipality Bontebok National Park – Ref: BNPX1R (1 position) Local Municipality: Swellendam Municipality Important: Apply only to the site closest to your residential area. Proof of residence is required. Minimum Requirements South African citizen (certified copy of ID required). Unemployed youth aged 18 to 35 years. Matric (Grade 12) certificate or equivalent qualification. Literate and conversant in English. Passion or interest in the tourism sector. Must live within 40–50 km of the attraction/site (proof of residence required, e.g. recent municipal bill, letter from tribal authority or ward councillor – no affidavits accepted). Able to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays. Own reliable transport to and from the workplace. Added Advantage: Qualifications in tourism or environmental fields. Disqualification Criteria More than one learner per household. Use of affidavits as proof of residence. What the Role Involves Tourism Monitors will assist with visitor services, site monitoring, and enhancing the tourist experience at national parks. Duties include supporting tourists, ensuring compliance with site rules, and contributing to a safe and welcoming environment. Flexible hours and weekend/public holiday work will be required.
