Job Purpose

As a Casual Cashier, you will be the face of Dis-Chem at the point of sale. You will process customer transactions accurately and efficiently, provide excellent customer service, and help create a positive shopping experience while minimising risk and adhering to strict company policies and standard operating procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Adhere to Dis-Chem’s customer service policies and procedures at all times.
• Greet customers warmly, establish professional relationships, and deliver friendly, efficient service.
• Process all purchases accurately using the Dis-Chem operating system, including cash, card, vouchers, coupons, and other accepted payment methods.
• Handle loyalty card transactions, including accelerator partners such as Discovery Health, Medihelp, Momentum Multiply, Legacy Lifestyle, ABSA Rewards, and eBucks.
• Process refunds, exchanges, and returns only when properly authorised.
• Manage cash flow responsibly, place cash in the drop safe according to SOPs, and never leave money unsecured in the till.
• Ensure all line voids, price changes, and overrides are approved and signed off by a supervisor.
• Address customer queries regarding store merchandise and escalate complaints or compliments to the Frontline Supervisor or store management.
• Be fully aware of current promotions, sales, and special offers to assist customers effectively.
• Maintain high levels of accuracy and attention to detail to eliminate fraud risk and inaccuracies.
• Follow Dis-Chem’s 5-Star communication principles in every interaction.
• Ensure colleagues and customers are not exposed to any safety or security risks.
• Report suspicious behaviour immediately to management.
• Keep the till area clean, organised, and professional at all times.
• Work flexible retail hours, including weekends and public holidays, as required by the business.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 / Matric – essential.
• Minimum 6 months cashier or till operations experience (retail environment preferred).
• Computer literate with good working knowledge of MS Office.
• Sound numerical skills and high level of accuracy.
• Strong command of the English language (verbal and written).
• Basic customer service skills and a friendly, presentable demeanour.
• Willing and able to work retail hours (including weekends and public holidays).
• Must be a South African citizen with a clear credit and criminal record.
• Reliable transport or reside in close proximity to Blue Route Mall.

• Good time management skills.

Advantageous:

• Third additional language (Xhosa or Afrikaans would be beneficial).
