The Bakery Trainer plays a pivotal role in the Energy Marketing & Sales division. Key Accountabilities

As a Bakery Trainer, you will be responsible for the following:

Menu Development & Innovation

  • Create and maintain menus suited to the convenience retail forecourt environment.
  • Train staff on preparation methods, portion control, and consistency standards.
  • Continuously review and update the menu range to keep it relevant and appealing.
  • Support the introduction of new products and menu innovations aligned with Sasol’s retail food strategy.

Site Visits & Operational Support

  • Develop and submit weekly site visit schedules with logical planning.
  • Conduct regular site visits to assess operational standards, food quality, and staff competency.
  • Provide hands-on coaching to improve kitchen operations and food preparation.
  • Offer operational support during the opening of new retail sites.
  • Ensure efficient and error-free implementation of the food offering at new locations.

Training, Coaching & Development

  • Deliver theoretical classroom training and practical on-site training to site teams and franchisees.
  • Train staff on menu execution, operational procedures, equipment usage, and customer service.
  • Conduct competency assessments and identify areas for improvement.
  • Upload training records to the eLMS system.
  • Share best practices and support continuous improvement across sites.

Equipment Training & Implementation

  • Train staff on the safe and efficient use of all kitchen equipment in collaboration with suppliers.
  • Assist with testing and evaluation of new equipment before national rollout.

Food Safety, Hygiene & Compliance

  • Ensure strict adherence to all food safety standards, hygiene practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Train staff on proper food handling, storage, preparation, and personal hygiene.
  • Conduct regular operational checks to maintain compliance.

Performance Optimisation

  • Assist retailers in improving site turnover through better food offering and execution.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance product quality, workflow, and efficiency.
  • Support implementation of food merchandising standards and planograms.
  • Work closely with Retail Account Managers and stakeholders to achieve operational objectives.

You will be required to travel regularly for site visits and training sessions across the network.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Matric (Grade 12) and a valid Driver’s Licence (essential).
  • Professional Chef Qualification (NQF Level 5) or Diploma in Food Consumer Science, Food Science, Hospitality Management, or Food Service Management (highly advantageous).

Experience:

  • Minimum 6 years’ experience in a professional kitchen environment.
  • Experience in retail food service, quick service restaurants, or convenience food operations (advantageous).
  • Proven experience in menu development, recipe standardization, staff training, and operational implementation.
  • Knowledge of food safety systems and standards.
