Requirements

Applicants must have:

• ABET Level 4, Standard 8 or Grade 10.
• Between 1 and 6 months of relevant experience in semi-skilled manual labour.
• A valid driver’s licence will be an added advantage.
• Basic knowledge of building maintenance.
• Knowledge of infrastructure policies, building laws and relevant legislation.
• Knowledge of safe storage and handling of tools and equipment.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Reading, administration and office management skills.
• Basic planning, organising, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good people management skills.
• Discipline and the ability to follow instructions.

The successful candidates may be required to provide maintenance services across different Western TVET College campuses and sites.

Duties and Responsibilities

The appointed Handyman will be responsible for general maintenance and repairs. Duties will include:

• Maintaining office buildings.
• Conducting regular building inspections.
• Attending to minor electrical problems.
• Performing basic plumbing repairs.
• Carrying out minor carpentry work.
• Maintaining office equipment and furniture.
• Repairing damaged furniture and equipment.
• Reporting building and equipment defects.
• Cleaning and safely storing maintenance tools.
• Safekeeping maintenance supplies and equipment.
• Operating maintenance equipment safely.
• Performing duties according to instructions and the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act.

Documents Required

All applications must include:

• A fully completed and signed New Z83 application form.
• A comprehensive and updated CV.
