Key Responsibilities

As an Undertaker at the Prep Centre, you will handle the full end-to-end process of funeral preparations. Your duties will include:

• Conducting all funerals, aquamations, and cremations according to procedures and family wishes.
• Preparing and caring for the remains of loved ones with dignity and respect.
• Executing mortuary operations including confining and embalming.
• Maintaining accurate funeral records and documentation.
• Ensuring the mortuary and Prep Centre remain in a clean, hygienic, and orderly condition at all times.
• Assisting with the preparation and repatriation of bodies for out-of-province burials.
• Preparing the deceased for viewing and assisting with collections by families.
• Taking care of all funeral equipment and ensuring proper maintenance.
• Maintaining the company fleet used for funeral-related transport.
• Providing professional and empathetic support to families during the preparation process.
• Complying with all health, safety, and legislative requirements in the funeral industry.
• Collaborating with the broader AVBOB team to ensure seamless service delivery.
• Performing any other reasonable duties as required by management.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications:

• Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent qualification.
• Valid Driver’s Licence.

Experience & Knowledge:

• Minimum 2–3 years practical experience in the funeral industry.
• Strong knowledge of mortuary operations, embalming, and funeral procedures.
• Experience with cremations and aquamations will be an advantage.
• Excellent understanding of health, safety, and hygiene standards in a mortuary environment.
