Programme Overview

The Truworths Stores Learnership is designed to equip participants with the skills to excel as cross-trained sales consultants. Learners will work a minimum of 120 hours, combining theoretical training with hands-on experience on the sales floor and service desk. Key focus areas include customer service, stock management, and store operations, preparing you for roles such as shop assistant or cashier. Upon completion, participants receive a certificate of completion and a reference letter, enhancing future job prospects with Truworths or other retailers. While employment is not guaranteed, many graduates secure permanent roles due to their practical experience and training.

Key Responsibilities

As a learner, you will:

• Customer Service: Assist customers in finding merchandise, providing product information, and addressing inquiries to enhance their shopping experience.

• Merchandising: Arrange stock according to Truworths’ Merchandise Best Practice (MBP) principles to create an appealing store environment.

• Point of Sale (POS): Process payments and purchases accurately using the POS system.

• Account Management: Open new customer accounts to drive sales and loyalty.

• Stock Control: Maintain and control stock to minimize losses and ensure availability.

• Customer Safety: Ensure a secure shopping environment for customers and staff.

• Learning and Assessments: Complete logbooks, engage in continuous learning, and prepare for assessments to demonstrate competency as a cross-trained sales consultant.

• Relationship Building: Foster strong relationships with customers to enhance retention and satisfaction.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for the Truworths Stores Learnership, you must meet the following criteria:

• Education: Minimum Grade 10 certificate (Grade 12 advantageous but not required).

• Age and Citizenship: South African citizen, preferably aged 18–35 (some programmes may allow older candidates).

• Passion for Retail: Genuine enthusiasm for fashion and the retail industry.

• Other Requirements:

  • No prior completion of a related learnership programme.

  • Clear criminal record and good credit history.

  • Basic computer literacy (e.g., understanding basic software for training purposes).

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
