Position Overview

The Department of Correctional Services is hiring 50 Auxiliary Workers for the 2024 intake. This opportunity is ideal for individuals seeking to work in a challenging yet rewarding environment, providing support to operations within correctional facilities across South Africa.

Post Details: Social Auxiliary Workers – Grade 1

• Locations: Multiple centers in the Eastern Cape, Free State, Northern Cape, Gauteng, KwaZulu Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, North West, and Western Cape regions.

Requirements

• Qualification: Registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP) as a Social Auxiliary Worker.
• Skills & Attributes:
  • Computer literacy is required.
  • Report writing, problem-solving, interpersonal relations, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Integrity, honesty, adaptability, punctuality, and self-discipline.
  • Ability to work under pressure and network effectively.
  • Communication skills and willingness to travel.

Key Duties

1. Facilitate Victim Offender Dialogue Programme.
2. Keep records of attempts to locate victims.
3. Facilitate contact between offender and victim and assess potential areas of conflict.
4. Maintain database of available community support structures.
5. Orientate NGOs, community leaders, and families regarding reintegration of offenders.
6. Handle monthly returns and maintain communication with Head Community Corrections.
7. Assist the Departmental social workers for further intervention as needed.
