Job Overview:
Rand Water is hiring 45 Sewer Pump Station Operators for a 12-month fixed-term contract. This position is crucial for ensuring the optimal operation of Sewer Pump Stations. The role includes maintaining manual screens, operating pumps, conducting inspections, and keeping the station clean and functional. You will also be required to report any issues to your supervisor promptly.
Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 12 or Equivalent
- At least 1 year of experience working in a Sewer Pump Station
- Physically fit and medically fit to perform job duties
Key Responsibilities:
- Shift Hand Over:
- Receive and document handover from the previous shift operator.
- Sign the Pump Station Register to confirm shift handover.
- Monitoring & Recording:
- Record pump readings, including the Run Hour Meter and sump level readings.
- Ensure all valve positions (inlet and outlet) are correctly set for optimal operation.
- Daily Operations & Maintenance:
- Perform daily inspections of the pump station.
- Clean manual screens and ensure the general cleanliness of the station.
- Report any faulty equipment or operational issues to the supervisor.
- Monitor the performance and operation of running pumps.
Knowledge Requirements:
- Basic understanding of the functioning of Sewer Pump Stations
- Basic rigging techniques
- Knowledge of valves, pressure, and flow principles
- Familiarity with safety procedures related to pump station operations
Skills Required:
- Communication: Strong verbal communication skills are essential.
- Housekeeping: Ability to maintain a clean and organized workspace.
- Technical Aptitude: Ability to handle basic mechanical operations related to pump stations.
