Job Requirements

To qualify for the General Assistant role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: Grade 10, Standard 8, ABET Level 2–4, or NQF Level 1–3.

  • Experience: No prior work experience required – perfect for beginners!

  • Knowledge:

    • Understanding of cleaning procedures and relevant legislation (e.g., Occupational Health and Safety Act).

    • Familiarity with Departmental policies and procedures.

    • Knowledge of Batho Pele Principles for customer-focused service.

  • Skills and Competencies:

    • Effective verbal and written communication.

    • Customer service orientation and interpersonal skills.

    • Integrity, honesty, loyalty, fairness, and responsiveness.

    • Ability to work under pressure and write basic reports.

Key Responsibilities

As a General Assistant, you will:

  • Provide Cleaning Services: Dust and wax office furniture, sweep, scrub, and wax floors, vacuum and shampoo carpets, and clean walls, windows, and doors.

  • Maintain Restrooms: Clean restrooms, refill hand wash soap, replace toilet paper and towels, and ensure tidiness.

  • Manage Waste: Empty waste bins, transport waste to designated collection points, and wash bins as needed.

  • Maintain Equipment: Clean and maintain machines (e.g., vacuum cleaners) and report any faults.

  • Request Supplies: Monitor and request cleaning materials to ensure availability.

  2. Prepare Your CV: Submit a detailed CV with employment history (if any) and references.

  3. Submit Application:

    • Online: Use the provincial e-Recruitment system at https://erecruitment.ecotp.gov.za/. The system generates a Z83 form automatically, which does not require a signature at submission but must be signed if shortlisted for an interview.

    • By Hand Delivery: Deliver to The Department of Community Safety, Corner Independence Avenue and Circular Drive, Bhisho, ERF 5000 Building, 5605.

  4. Important Notes:

    • Use only the new Z83 form; applications with the old form will be disqualified.

    • Only shortlisted candidates need to submit certified copies of qualifications, including SAQA evaluations for foreign qualifications, on or before the interview date.
