About Rolfontein Nature Reserve and the Role

Rolfontein Nature Reserve is a protected area that welcomes visitors while requiring careful management of access, revenue, and infrastructure. The Gate Guard serves as the first point of contact for guests entering the reserve and plays a supporting role in both visitor services and general maintenance.

This position requires a balance of customer service skills and practical work. You will interact with the public, provide information about the reserve, handle entrance fees, and assist the maintenance team with physical tasks such as road and trail upkeep, infrastructure maintenance, and rehabilitation programmes. Key Performance Areas / Duties

The successful candidate will provide a supporting role to the management of the reserve by performing the following duties:

  • Receive and interact with visitors to the Rolfontein Nature Reserve.
  • Provide public interaction and convey information about the reserve.
  • Receipt and handling of revenue at Rolfontein Nature Reserve.
  • Collection and control of revenue at the entrance gate.
  • Maintain Rolfontein Nature Reserve building infrastructure.
  • Provide assistance to the Rolfontein Nature Reserve maintenance team in the maintenance of roads, hiking trails and reserve structures.
  • Provide manual labour and maintenance of reserve infrastructure.
  • Provide assistance with rehabilitation and landscaping programmes.
  • Perform all administrative and related functions.
  • Attend meetings.
  • Attend training courses.
  • Keep up to date with general labour-related issues.
  • Complete and maintain tourist information profiles and relevant reports.

In practical terms, this includes greeting visitors professionally, answering basic questions about the reserve, collecting and accurately recording entrance fees, performing light maintenance tasks, supporting ecological rehabilitation efforts, and completing basic administrative duties and reports as required.

Minimum Requirements

  • A Grade 10 Certificate.
  • Some proven experience in tourism and/or security management.
  • A valid Code E driver’s licence.
  • The incumbent must be comfortable to work a revised schedule.
