Job Description

As a Driver Operator in Limpopo’s Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure, you will operate specialized equipment such as graders to maintain and improve road networks. Your role will involve hands-on tasks to ensure safe and efficient transportation infrastructure, contributing to the province’s development goals. Key responsibilities include:

Equipment Operation: Operate specialized equipment for grading gravel roads, re-gravelling, and shoulder maintenance.
Loading and Offloading: Safely load and offload goods, equipment, and materials.
Inspection and Maintenance: Perform physical inspections of vehicles and equipment, report defects, and interpret operating manuals for safe use.
Log Keeping: Maintain accurate log sheets for vehicles and machinery, including trip authorizations.
Safety Compliance: Apply safety and precautionary measures during operations.
Driving Services: Transport work teams, materials, and equipment; detect and repair minor issues on vehicles.
Team Support: Work collaboratively to support road maintenance activities.

This position requires physical fitness, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety in a dynamic outdoor environment.

Requirements

Educational Qualification:

Qualification at NQF Level 04 as recognized by SAQA.

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid Driver’s License Code EC.
Operating certificate (Grader Operator).

Generic Competencies:

Communication skills (verbal and written).
Ability to read and write.
Good eyesight.
Teamwork and collaboration.

Technical Competencies:

Operation of specialized equipment.
Physical inspection of vehicles and interpretation of instructions for safe operation.
