Job Overview
As a Sterilisation Production Operator, you will ensure the effective decontamination, sterilisation, and supply of medical instruments and linen at Caledon Hospital. This permanent role involves working shifts, including weekends and public holidays, and requires physical fitness to handle heavy equipment and prolonged standing. You will play a vital role in maintaining infection control and supporting the hospital’s operational needs within the CSSD.
Key Responsibilities

Linen and Pack Management:
-
Collect and deliver soiled and clean linen and sterile packs to and from theatre and wards.

Ensure timely and accurate distribution to support hospital operations.

Sterilisation Processes:

Decontaminate, pack, and sterilise instruments, linen, and supplies using appropriate techniques.

Adhere to infection control and health and safety regulations to prevent contamination.

Equipment Maintenance:

Assist with cleaning and testing sterilisation equipment, washing machines, and autoclaves.

Maintain equipment in optimal working condition through regular checks and reporting issues.

Stock and Resource Management:

Monitor, control, and maintain adequate stock levels of sterilisation supplies.

Ensure cost-effective utilisation of resources to minimize waste.

Support and Reporting:

Report lost instruments or equipment and assist with investigations.

Provide optimal support to the supervisor and CSSD team members.

Requirements

Education: General Education and Training Certificate (GETC)/Grade 9 (Standard 7) or equivalent.

Experience: Appropriate experience in a CSSD setting within a hospital environment.

Inherent Requirements:

Willingness to work shifts (day and night), weekends, and public holidays.

Physical fitness to lift heavy objects, push heavy trolleys, bend down, and stand for extended periods.

Competencies:

Good interpersonal and communication skills (basic literacy, verbal and written).

Ability to work cooperatively in a team context.

Knowledge of sterilisation processes, infection control, and CSSD equipment use.
