Job Overview

As an NPO Help Desk Officer, you will provide essential support to non-profit organisations by addressing queries, offering guidance, and facilitating outreach programmes. This permanent role, based in Pretoria, requires a strong understanding of NPO-related legislation, excellent problem-solving skills, and a customer-focused approach. You will play a critical role in ensuring NPOs receive the information and assistance they need to operate effectively, contributing to the DSD’s mission of fostering sustainable community development.

Key Responsibilities

  • NPO Support Services:

    • Provide accurate information, guidance, and feedback to NPOs on registration, compliance, and operational matters.

    • Handle NPO queries and complaints promptly and professionally, ensuring high-quality customer service.

  • Outreach Programmes:

    • Deliver off-site support during NPO outreach initiatives, engaging with organisations and stakeholders in various communities.

    • Facilitate workshops or information sessions to promote NPO compliance and best practices.

  • Administrative Duties:

    • Prepare reports on help desk activities, including query resolution and outreach outcomes.

    • Maintain accurate records of interactions with NPOs, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with POPIA and PAIA.

  • Customer Engagement:

    • Build positive relationships with NPO representatives, demonstrating empathy and patience.

    • Uphold Batho Pele Principles to ensure a client-oriented and customer-focused service delivery.

Requirements

  • Education: Grade 12 certificate or equivalent (NQF Level 4).

  • Knowledge:

    • Public Service Act and Regulations.

    • NPO Act, Regulations, Policies, and Guidelines.

    • Companies Act and Trust Properties Control Act.

    • Batho Pele Principles.

    • Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA).

    • NPO Codes of Good Practice.

  • Skills and Competencies:

    • Proficiency in at least two official South African languages (verbal and written).

    • Computer literacy (MS Office: Word, Excel, Outlook).

    • Strong time management and problem-solving skills.

    • Excellent communication and listening skills.

    • Client orientation and customer focus.

    • Report writing and administrative skills.

  • Attributes:

    • Patience and empathy in dealing with diverse stakeholders.

    • Accuracy and attention to detail in handling queries and documentation.

    • Ability to work under pressure, both independently and in a team.

    • Friendly, trustworthy, and committed to maintaining confidentiality.
