The Alfred Nzo District is seeking a reliable and dedicated Messenger/Driver to join our team in Mount Ayliff. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with basic education and a passion for driving and providing support in a government office environment. If you have a valid driver’s license with a PDP, strong interpersonal skills, and a willingness to support various office functions, this role is perfect for you.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Messenger/Driver, you will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Core Driving Functions:
    • Drive light and medium motor vehicles to transport passengers and deliver items such as mail, documents, and packages.
    • Perform routine maintenance checks on the allocated vehicle, including regular servicing and reporting any defects or issues in a timely manner.
    • Complete all required records and logbooks regarding vehicle usage and goods handled, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations.
  • Secondary Office Support Functions:
    • Provide messenger services, such as collecting and delivering documentation and other related items within the department.
    • Assist with clerical duties including photocopying, faxing, and assisting in the registry.
    • Support office staff by helping with routine office functions like registry work and document management.

Requirements:

  • Educational Qualification:
    • Grade 8 Certificate or ABET Level 4, or NQF Level 1-3.
    • No prior work experience is required; however, one year of relevant work experience will be an advantage.
  • Skills and Knowledge:
    • Knowledge of motor vehicle operations, including procedures for obtaining trip authorizations, basic services (e.g., refueling or fixing flat tires), and vehicle maintenance.
    • Understanding of the correct utilization and storage of government vehicles.
    • Basic literacy skills (ability to read and write) and good verbal and written communication skills.
    • Must be self-motivated, have good interpersonal skills, and be able to work independently.
  • License Requirements:
    • A valid driver’s license with a PDP (Professional Driving Permit) is mandatory for this position.
