Sunshine Seedling Services, part of the TWK Group, has the following vacancy available: Nursery Manager at Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Oversee the running of the TWK Sunshine Seedling Services nurseries (Forestry, Clone, Vegetable, and Ornamentals) on 4 sitesInvolved in the strategic management of the nursery and its operations
Ensuring realistic budgets are set and achieved
Planning and coordinating production to meet orders and budgets
ISO9001 meetings and continual improvement
Ensure strict adherence to procedures
Capex investigation and application
Health and Safety and equity compliance
Overall management of staff
Human Resources oversight and working with the HR Department
Development of people ensuring future employment equity plans are met and that Sunshine Seedling Services has a pipeline of skilled supervisors, junior managers, and managers coming through
Involved in disciplinary matters when required
Meeting with managers and staff on a regular basis
Conducting stock takes and being involved in the mid and end of the financial-year reports
Ensuring financial controls are being adhered to
Involved in setting up systems to streamline operations and align Sunshine Seedling Services with the TWK Group
Reporting back to senior management on the running of the nurseries
Involved in research and aligning Sunshine Seedling Services with the key objectives of the TWK Group
Keeping abreast of market changes and new innovations
Assist in the planning, stock controls, and maintenance of the nurseries ensuring there are no delays in the operations
Involved in the marketing of the various lines in the nurseries, attending trade days, shows, etc.
Problem-shooting and assisting Managers with decision making
Qualifications and Skills:
Matric / Grade 12Management degree or equivalent
5 years experience at a senior level and 10 years in operations
Nursery experience at a senior level (advantageous)
Experience managing a diverse group of people and communicating at all levels
Management in a corporate environment (advantageous)
Willingness to learn and keep up with nursery trends
Experience with Excel, Word, and Outlook
Driver’s license
Understanding of nursery or agricultural operations
Trilingual (English, Afrikaans, and isiZulu)
Budget and financial understanding
Ability to multitask
Attention to detail
Ability to work under pressure
Reliable
