Important NSFAS Updates for Students 2025
Update Your Banking Details
NSFAS has introduced a new policy requiring TVET college beneficiaries to receive their allowances directly into personal bank accounts. This change, effective May 25, 2024, is intended to improve efficiency and ensure timely payments.
Steps to Update Your Banking Details:
- Open a Bank Account:
If you do not have a bank account, open one at any bank of your choice. - Submit Your Banking Information:
- Log in to your myNSFAS account at www.nsfas.org.za.
- Go to the ‘Profile Information’ section and click on ‘Bank Account Details’.
- Enter your banking information accurately and save the changes.
Important Notes:
- Ensure that the bank account is registered in your own name.
- The previous NSFAS Direct Payment Black card will no longer be used.
- University students will continue receiving allowances through their respective institutions until July 2024.

NSFAS Application Period for 2025-2026
The application period for NSFAS funding for the 2025-2026 academic year will run from November 21, 2024, to January 31, 2025. Students are encouraged to apply early, as late applications might not be accepted.
Eligibility Criteria:
To qualify for NSFAS funding, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Must be a South African citizen or permanent resident.
- Be a SASSA grant recipient or have a combined household income not exceeding R350,000 per year.
- Persons with disabilities may apply if their household income is below R600,000 per year.
How to Apply for NSFAS Funding
- Create a myNSFAS Account:
- Visit https://my.nsfas.org.za.
- Register using your ID number as your username.
- Complete the Application:
- Log in to your myNSFAS account.
- Click on the ‘Apply’ tab and fill in your personal details.
- Upload all the necessary supporting documents.
- Submit your application before January 31, 2025.
Late Application Process
Late applications may only be accepted in special cases. To avoid missing out, ensure you submit your application before the deadline.
