About the Role
The Housekeeper Supervisor position is within the Chief Directorate: Metro Health Services at Valkenberg Hospital. This Level 05 role involves managing daily operations related to cleaning, linen, and hygiene services, ensuring compliance with safety and hygiene standards. It’s a hands-on supervisory position requiring shift work, including weekends and public holidays, to maintain continuous service provision.
Key Responsibilities

Overall Control and Coordination: Oversee the organization, performance, and coordination of tasks related to food services, linen management, and hygiene. Ensure all activities align with hospital policies and protocols.

Linen and Clothing Management: Supervise the cleaning, sorting, counting, unpacking, washing, and sluicing of linen and patient clothing. Maintain accurate records and ensure efficient processes to prevent shortages or delays.

Inventory and Resource Management: Handle the ordering, utilization, and control of cleaning supplies, household items, and equipment. Implement cost-saving measures while maintaining quality standards.

Record-Keeping and Reporting: Maintain detailed records of inventories, incidents, and reports. Compile and submit regular reports on housekeeping activities to management.

Staff Supervision and Training: Manage and supervise housekeeping staff, including shift scheduling and performance evaluations. Coordinate effective training programs to enhance service delivery and ensure team compliance with protocols.

Hygiene and Safety Compliance: Enforce knowledge of safety and hygiene standards, ensuring a clean and safe environment for patients and staff. Address any risks promptly and adhere to occupational health guidelines.

HR and Administrative Duties: Handle related human resource matters, such as leave management and relief assignments, to ensure uninterrupted services.
Requirements and Competencies
To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

Education: General Education and Training Certificate (GETC)/Grade 9 (Std 7).

Experience: Appropriate experience in cleaning, linen, and housekeeping within a hospital environment.

Inherent Requirements: Willingness to work shifts, weekends, public holidays, and overtime as needed. Ability to provide relief in other wards for effective service provision.
