Job Responsibilities

As a Handyman: Facilities in Polokwane, you will:

  • Perform Routine Maintenance: Conduct repairs and maintenance on office buildings, including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, sewer systems, and equipment, ensuring compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

  • Assist with Inspections: Support the inspection of contractors’ maintenance work to ensure quality and adherence to standards.

  • Record and Report: Log daily maintenance tasks and report needs to supervisors for efficient planning.

  • Plan and Execute Tasks: Assist in scheduling and performing maintenance tasks to keep facilities in top condition.

  • Support Housekeeping: Undertake basic housekeeping and ad-hoc tasks as directed by your supervisor.

Your work will ensure a safe and functional environment for staff and visitors, contributing to the department’s operational success.

Requirements

To qualify for this Handyman role, you need:

  • Education: Grade 10, ABET, or AET qualification (recognized by SAQA).

  • Experience: No formal experience required, but basic knowledge of building maintenance, plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, and equipment repairs is essential.

  • Knowledge:

    • Understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and public service legislative frameworks.

    • Familiarity with maintenance procedures and best practices.

  • Skills:
