Minimum Requirements
-
Educational Requirement: An ABET Certificate (Adult Basic Education and Training).

Experience:
-
0–1 year of relevant work experience.
-
Having two or more years of experience in general labour, maintenance, or gardening work will be an added advantage.

Skills and Knowledge:
-
Ability to operate and maintain gardening and maintenance equipment such as lawnmowers, trimmers, sprayers, and hand tools.
-
Basic knowledge of gardening processes, including trimming, pruning, planting, and watering.
-
Understanding of the safe handling of chemicals, including herbicides and fertilisers.
-
Awareness of machine/equipment maintenance procedures to ensure effective performance.
-
Basic knowledge of health and safety procedures and the importance of following safety rules in the workplace.

Understanding of government procedures and legislation relevant to public service employment.
-
Good communication and teamwork abilities.
-
Applicants must be physically fit, reliable, and willing to perform manual work outdoors, sometimes under challenging weather conditions or near water bodies such as dams, rivers, and canals.
⚒️ Duties and Responsibilities
As a Groundsman, you will be responsible for the general upkeep, cleanliness, and maintenance of the grounds, facilities, and surrounding areas of the dam where you are stationed. This includes:
Grounds Maintenance

Maintain and clean outdoor areas by cutting grass, trimming shrubs, and pruning trees.

Mix, spray, or spread fertilisers, herbicides, or insecticides on lawns, plants, and trees using both manual and powered sprayers.

Rake and mulch leaves, water plants and lawns, and ensure proper irrigation.
-
Take care of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, fountains, and planters, keeping them neat and safe.
General Repairs and Cleaning

Perform minor repairs on structures such as fences, benches, and walkways using hand or power tools.

Clean buildings, windows, and floors, ensuring neatness inside and outside the facility.

Repair and maintain tools and equipment, ensuring they are in safe working order.

Report any major faults or breakdowns to supervisors or refer to service providers for repair.
Record Keeping
-
Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, job cards, and repairs done.
-
Report and document any structural damages, cracks, holes, or water stagnation detected during daily inspections.
Teamwork and Safety
-
Work closely with other team members and supervisors to complete maintenance and cleaning tasks.
-
Participate in safety meetings and training, and follow all health and safety regulations.

Always wear and use personal protective equipment (PPE).
-
Be willing to assist other schemes, maintenance teams, or nearby projects when required.

Should demonstrate reliability, the ability to follow instructions, and a positive work ethic.

Must be willing to work outdoors and in confined spaces if necessary.

Capable of performing physically demanding work on a daily basis.
