Job Requirements

  • Driver:

    • Education: NQF Level 4 (e.g., Grade 12) as recognized by SAQA.

    • License: Valid driver’s license (except for applicants with disabilities).

    • Skills and Knowledge: Procedures for vehicle operation (e.g., trip authorizations, logbooks), vehicle maintenance, and proper utilization; communication and teamwork.

  • Driver Operator:

    • Education: NQF Level 4 (e.g., Grade 12) as recognized by SAQA.

    • License: Valid Code EC driver’s license and operating certificate (e.g., Grader or heavy-duty vehicles, except for applicants with disabilities).

    • Skills and Knowledge: Operation of specialized equipment, vehicle inspection, and adherence to operating/maintenance manuals; knowledge of road regulations, health and safety, and roadwork procedures; communication, teamwork, and good eyesight.

Key Responsibilities

  • Driver:

    • Drive light/medium vehicles to transport passengers, mail, and documents.

    • Perform routine vehicle maintenance and report defects.

    • Complete vehicle logs and required records for goods handled.

  • Driver Operator:

    • Operate specialized equipment (e.g., graders) for road maintenance like regravelling and shoulder work.

    • Load/offload goods and equipment; inspect and maintain machinery.

    • Transport work teams and materials; perform minor vehicle repairs (e.g., check oil, fuel, tyres).

    • Keep log sheets, apply safety measures, and clean/lubricate equipment.
